What Happens When a Skunk Sneaks Into a Race Car?.....

Say Hello to Trouble!

Hi Red Racer Books Fam!

I’m thrilled to spotlight a new picture book from my friend and fellow author Lee Anne Patterson: The Trouble with Howard, another real racing story brought to life with incredible artwork by Roger Warrick.

While this book isn’t published by us at Red Racer Books, we are helping Lee Anne sell her books via Amazon because it’s a great read, and I know if you are a fan of ours you will also love this quirky and fun racing book. And the illustrations are really great too!!

Plus, it combines two things kids love: cars and animals!

Why I love it:

It’s authentic, rooted in real people who helped open doors for women in professional racing (Anita’s the team’s super-mechanic).

  • It’s
  • kid-friendly but legit
  • , you’ll spot real track moments and learn cool animal facts along the way.
    The
  • art is a blast
  • ,
  • Roger Warrick
  • is a beloved motorsports illustrator, and you can feel the speed and humor in every spread.

About the creators:

Lee Anne Patterson knows racing. She’s been promotions director at Sears Point (now Sonoma), worked with Carroll Shelby (and led the Dodge Shelby Pro Series), and later co-owned and managed an IndyCar team that ran the full schedule, including the Indy 500. Today she runs a boutique promotions agency helping motorsports stories find their fans.

Roger Warrick is a veteran illustrator whose motorsports work has appeared everywhere from the Indianapolis 500 program to museum collections and private commissions.

🛒 Where to get it: Now on Amazon, The Trouble with Howard
44-page hardcover book, Great for Ages 5–10
Themes: Dealing with bully, team work, women in racing, and kindness to animals.

A very cool feature of the book is the endpapers that feature two spreads of a garage scene with over 27 different things, try to spot them all if you can!

Lastly, be sure to fill out your pit credential at the beginning. If you give the book, fill in the child’s name, your “special” team name and then issued by - you! With a pit credential, they can then go thru the gates and into the story.

If you pick it up, hit reply and tell us your favorite spread.

We love seeing your kids reading about racing!

Keep reading, keep racing,
Andy
